Help Mr. Cook Get a Wheelchair-Accessible Van Long-Term Goal & Medical Devices
Fundraising Goal: $120K
Mr. Cook, a disabled vet, has survived what many would not. After enduring a series of life-threatening conditions—including spinal meningitis, arachnoiditis, encephalitis, bacteremia, septicemia and osteomyelitis—he spent months in the hospital and multiple stays in the ICU. His recovery has been nothing short of miraculous, and doctors are astonished he’s still with us.
Now home with his daughter, Mr. Cook is working hard to regain his strength, mobility, and independence. But he faces a major obstacle: transportation.
Why We Need Your Help
Mr. Cook requires a motorized wheelchair, which is taller and heavier than standard models. Our current minivan cannot accommodate it—and it’s barely running. Without a wheelchair-accessible van, Mr. Cook is confined to his home. Medicaid transportation only covers medical appointments which many times the rides do not show up, therefore he misses vital appointments. This situation leaves him isolated from the outside world. Having a reliable form of transportation would remove a tremendous amount of stress from him and his family.
A suitable van would allow him to:
- Attend therapy and medical visits safely
- Enjoy simple outings that boost his emotional well-being
- Reconnect with his community and regain a sense of normalcy
We’ve launched this fundraiser to raise $120K to purchase a van and medical devices that meets his needs. Every donation—large or small—makes a difference. All donations go directly to the project purchases, not to the individual.
